Spread the love

Hello! My name is Erin and I’m a crochet-a-holic. (Hi, Erin.) But, for real, I am. I see crochet patterns everywhere. If I see a crocheted piece in the store, I immediately say “I can make that.” Even if I can’t. I love how much I can do with crochet. Although, I have learned that even though something can be crocheted, doesn’t mean it should be. I like coming up with new patterns and designs. I do get frustrated easily and if I have to pull out (or “frog”) a large amount I will most likely give up, or try to remedy the issue along the way instead of repair it. I rarely ever check my gauge. I know I should, but I like to wing it. That’s a pretty good idea of what my life is like as well.

My Life

A little about my life. Currently, I’m a stay at home mom with a couple part-time/independent jobs. I crochet and craft for craft shows and Etsy. I do most of that between the hours of 8 pm and midnight after my two precious boys are in bed, or on the weekends when my wonderful, teacher husband is home. My boys, Will and Owen. They have been an inspiration for a large number of my projects. I picked up my hook after a significant hiatus once Will, my oldest, was born in 2011. I wanted to make him cute little hats and blankets. I quickly realized that I much prefered making hats over blankets (which was all I had really made before this time). Blankets do not hold my attention very well. I like either a challenge or something that I can finish quickly. This also led to my introduction to amigurumi, quite possibly my favorite (although, I would estimate it is the least profitable). Some of my favorite creations are the Super Will and Super Owen dolls I made for my super boys. They were designed to look like the Superhero costumes that I made. (Sewing is another passion/skill of mine.) My life (and I’m sure most everyone else’s as well) can be crazy and busy and stressful but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Crochet most definitely helps keep me centered along the way.

This blog

.

I’m starting this blog for a few reasons. One, I heard a rumor that it could bring in some income. I’m always okay with extra income, I do live in the real world though and know that this is not going to be a cash cow by any means. Two, I wanted to write. I have a BA in English and loved writing in college. I wanted to get back to that. And writing about something that I know and love is a plus. Three, free patterns! I am not the most gifted pattern creator or writer, I’m sure. I do enjoy it though. And from my experience finding free and cute patterns online can be a challenge sometimes. I understand that these designers put a lot of work into their designs and should be compensated for them. And really $5 for a pattern isn’t too bad, especially if you can sell the items you make. I’ve paid for my fair share of patterns but I really like the free ones. Four, (am I on four?) I love crochet! I do. I may have already mentioned it.

The goal

Basically, the goal of this blog is to give me an outlet and hopefully offer you and others tips, tricks, tutorials, free patterns, and advice. While I do love crochet, I think it is realistic to note that I will probably run low on posts at some point. I do intend to cover other topics as well. Sewing, as I mentioned is another hobby of mine. And my husband, Aaron (yep, we share a name, just spelled differently), and I cut vinyl for signs and other crafts. I’m sure that will come up at some point. I’m hoping to cover a wide range of topics and possibly have some of the super creative people in my life guest post as well.

Thank you for reading this far and I hope you keep coming back for more!
