Futurama has long been one of my favorite shows. I literally can’t even count the number of times I’ve watched the entire series. There are so many good jokes and fun episodes (except “Jurassic Bark”… I skip that one every time 🙁 )

I bought this green Bernat Baby Blanket yarn a while back and thought that it would be fun for a plush amigurumi because it is so soft and squishy! The first thing that came to mind with this color was, of course, a BRAIN SLUG!!! 🙂 🙂 

This little brain-sucking alien is so quick to whip up and super soft! You can leave it as is or let it deplete your mental capacity by attaching it to a headband or string and placing it on your head! Enjoy!

Brain Slug Amigurumi

Supplies Needed:

Bernat Baby Blanket, Super Bulky 6 (100% Polyester, 220 yds, 10.5 oz) Lemon Lime, 1 skein, White and Black, small amount for eye

Yarn Needle

L/11 8mm hook

Stitches Used:

US Terminology

Ch- Chain

Sl st- Slip Stitch

SC- Single Crochet

2SC- Single Crochet Increase- Do 2 SC into the same stitch to increase

SC DEC- Single Crochet Decrease- I use the Invisible Decrease

DC- Double Crochet

2DC- Double Crochet Increase- Do 2 DC in the same stitch to increase

FLO- Front Loop Only

Body

Body will be worked in joined rounds. Except where noted, each round begins with a Ch 1 and ends with a sl st to the first stitch of the round.

In Lemon Lime

1) Using the Magic Ring technique (OR Ch 3 and join with a sl st to first ch to form a loop) SC 8. (8)

2) 2SC in each around. (16)

3) *SC in next, 2SC* Repeat from * to * around. (24)

4-9) SC in each around. (24)

10) *SC in next 6, SC DEC* Repeat from * to * around. (21)

11) Ch 2. In FLO, 2DC in each around. (42)

While this type of yarn is super fun, it can make it a little tricky to see the loops on your stitches. You should be able to feel them though. 

11-cont) Ch 3 and then sl st to the first unworked back loop of round 10. (42 DC) [You could also cut off your yarn at the end of this round and reattach to continue Round 12.] 

12) In the unworked Back Loops of Round 10, *SC in next, SC DEC* Repeat from * to * around. (14)

Stuff your Brain Slug to your desired firmness. I liked mine being more squishy and therefore less firm.

13) SC DEC around. (7)

Finish off, leave a tail to close the hole.

Antennae

In Lemon Lime

Attach yarn around post between Rounds 2 and 3.

Ch 4, In 2nd chain from hook, SC 1, leave rest of the chains unworked. Finish off. Use the end tail to help form the end of the antenna and then secure through the chain and into the body. Use the beginning tail to secure the base of the antenna to the body.

Repeat on the opposite side of the body. Photo Steps below.

Eye

In White

1) Using the Magic Ring technique (OR Ch 3 and join with a sl st to first ch to form a loop) SC 8. (8)

2) 2SC in each around. (16)

Finish Off. Leave tail to sew on.

Take a length of black and embroider a pupil on your eye. I usually go through the middle and then off to the side. Go around 3 or 4 times until the pupil looks full and round. Tie off those ends in the back and cut.

Use the White tail to sew the eye onto the body. Center it between the antennae.

Attach to headband, piece of yarn, elastic, barrette, bobby pins, etc if you want to be able to wear it. You could also whip up a simple beanie (like my Basic Beanie pattern here) and stitch it on to that as well!
